Lepidopterans are a collection of 230 unique NFT [
1] illustrations, hosted on the Kusama blockchain [
2] and easily available through the Singular marketplace [
3]. Lepidopterans are bought, sold, and managed securely via the decentralized RMRK protocol [
4].
Each illustration is a butterfly or moth (
lepidoptera) with a distinct combination of attributes: wing shape, color, wing pattern, antennae, and wing border. Some attributes occur in only a few lepidoptera, while others are more common. The frequency of each attribute is described in tables below.
The name
Lepidoptera is derived from Greek, meaning "scaly winged," and refers to the characteristic covering of microscopic dust-like scales on butterfly and moth wings.
RMRK (pronounced "remark") is a set of standards on the Kusama blockchain [
2] which compose five "NFT lego" primitives. By leveraging RMRK and Kusama's multi-chain architecture, Lepidopteran NFTs are eternally liquid and seamlessly portable to any connected parachain.
